SX2025: ASEAN’s Biggest Sustainability Stage

Where adaptability meets collaboration.

September 6,2025…The many fast-paced changes happening within the world have resulted in a negative impact on the environment. It is no longer an effective measure to simply work on slowing down these environmental impacts. There must also be the implementation of more foolproof methods in attempts to reverse some of the damage. Effective ways in reaching this will consist of adaptability and collaboration being at the heart of the plan.

Controlling global warming to remain at 1.5 degrees Celsius is no longer a possibility as it is hypothesised to reach 2-2.5 degrees Celsius. It is also predicted in 50-70 years that as a result of Global warming, one of the key factors is there will be changes within the ocean’s warm currents which could lead to Europe reaching colder temperatures making it uninhabitable. This would change the geography as we know it and could lead to huge disruptions in many aspects, both social and environmental. Thailand might end up being submerged in water given the high likelihood of the ice glaciers melting resulting in floods. With many countries and continents facing major impacts that can no longer be disregarded this is why SX2025 has put the focus on adaptability and collaboration to help each other with the exchange of ideas and to be a breeding ground for new alliances. This event brings forth hope in displaying the progress that has been made and inspiring visions for the future.

Tongjai Thanachanan, Director of the Organizing Committee Sustainability Expo 2025 said

“This platform plays a vital role in driving and connecting efforts across ASEAN, and this year, expands its reach to the international stage. It serves as a global arena where knowledge, opportunities, and challenges in today’s world are shared, while promoting adaptation across multiple dimensions through tangible actions that contribute to sustainable growth-economically, socially, and environmentally.”

There has been an increase in the elderly population in Thailand and so changes must be made to help them adapt to a more sustainable way of living further emphasising the role of adaptability requiring the collaboration of citizens. With the ways they were previously accustomed to now being deemed unsustainable, we must help them transition into a sustainable future easing their mindsets towards acceptance. With a rising elderly population new policies will need to be enacted to support them. The government will need to create new policies to make sure their needs are met and so the management of money such as in departments like healthcare, must be re-evaluated and re-assessed. AI has the power to help with planning and should be utilised.

“Humans will have to live hand in hand with technology and robots, if effective adaptations do not occur then technology will replace us, however given suited adaptation takes place technology will increase our quality of life. The younger generations will need to play their role in educating the elderly to improve their technological skills to defend themselves against technological threats such as fraud.”

Tongjai mentions how with each event hosted they aim to be carbon neutral and recycle as much waste that has been caused as a result of the event. When the event produces carbon emissions, certain companies will provide a portion of their emissions quota to help out, such as ThaiBev and Mitr Phol.
